Nobody likes being involved in car crashes and “nobody” also includes celebrities. There were plenty of celebrity car crashes in 2011. Some were life threatening.
The worst was a car accident involving Ryan Dunn, age 34. Ryan was most noted for being one of the stars of MTV’s “Jackass” files. Dunn’s Porsche 911 GT went out of control when Dunn was reported driving under the influence. He was killed in the fiery car crash. His passenger was also killed in this terrible accident. By the time police arrived, it was too late. The car was completely engulfed in flames. The worst part, it could have easily been avoided.
Nicole Richie was a victim of a car accident. She and a passenger were driving in Beverly Hills when she was struck by a car being driven by paparazzi. The accident was severe enough that she complained of pain and needed to seek medical attention. The car only sustained moderate damages.
Another car accident resulting in death was that of Eddie Kirkland. He was known as the “Gypsy of the Blues”. Kirkland was in Florida over the weekend to play a show. In the morning he was driving his Ford Taurus and made a U-turn in front of a Greyhound bus. The car was pushed over 200 yards when it was hit by the bus. Fortunately, none of the passengers on the bus or the driver were injured.
Former North Carolina basketball star, Lorenzo Charles was killed while driving a bus in North Carolina. The bus he was driving crashed along a highway.
The most horrific car accident of 2011 occurred on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Dan Wheldon, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner hit a post supporting the catch fence during a race. This was completely a freak accident where several unfortunate events happened at once. The accident was blamed on the high grip level, the variable lines of racing and the rare track blockage from another crash.
Car accidents don’t care if you are poor, rich, famous or just an average person. The lesson to be learned is to be careful, pay attention, and most importantly – don’t drink and drive!
