Here are a few things that you need, according to well known celebrities, at your vanity table: in a nice frame, a picture of your favorite, old school movie star or your favorite picture of yourself all done up; a tray of fragrances; decorative holders for your makeup brushes; an ottoman or chair; divided storage drawers for hair and makeup accessories; soft white lighting through lamps or wall fixtures; a large mirror (or medium sized); and a simple desk or table.

Be sure that the chair or stool upon which you sit is comfortable and cushiony, and will not promote a backache. Lighting is of the utmost importance. During the day if you can be by a window, natural light is preferable. For night time lighting, installing a dimmer switch on your lighting system is a great touch. A hardwood floor with a fun, washable or replaceable throw rug, in a secluded corner of a room is the best place to set up your own private makeup vanity. Above all else… Never build your vanity in a bathroom. Bacterial growth in and on make-up products is encouraged by the humid atmosphere.
