Val was too pretty as a youngster, and the parts he played reflected that vapid shallow pretty boy. I like the new Val. He looks more like a real guy now. I like the greasy hair that’s a little too long. and the clothes that don’t quite fit.
His acting is getting better too. He plays “edgier” parts now. Some of the pretty boys of his era, ( James Spader, Nick Nolte, etc) have broadened the scope of roles they can play, by just letting nature and time change them a little bit.
I just happened to see a picture of Val and my gosh what a waste of a …. man? life? I mean sorry to all his fans, but why some actors just go that way? Brando fattened big time in his LOST island and now Mr. Kilmer too?, I mean I take care of myself and it doesn’t mean I am glued to the mirror 24/7, is called self esteem or something in that nature, not less or more, hope he joins a health club, he’s still not beyond hope I guess.

The gain or loss of weight is often a signal that the person is going through a tough emotional time, or even depression. The spotlight of stardom is a lonely, scary place most of us (self included) do not understand. Being overweight and being depressed feed on each other (no pun),,,I have personally gained and lost 100 pounds. When Mr. Kilmer is damn good and ready, the instinct within all men will get the better of him and he will sort this out to the extent he wishes. In the meantime, none of this discredits his thespian accomplishments. Val, you will always be Iceman in my memory (the spirit and the attitude, not the body). Come to think of it, was Tom Cruise not spotlighted recently for getting a little podgy?
